Advanced oxidation processes applied to effluent streams from an agrochemical industry

چکیده
Firstly, I wish to thank the Organizing Committee of this Congress for this invitation so that, I should have the opportunity to report our project at the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), Brazil, that deals with the application of Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP’s) to effluent streams within an agrochemical industry. During next 20 minutes, I’ll define (Fig. 1) and explain advanced oxidation processes; then I’ll demonstrate their importance and, last but not least, I’d relate a case study of the application of AOP’s to effluent streams of an agrochemical industry in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. This topic is receiving full attention from our research group at the UFSM because of its environmental importance. In this scheme (Fig. 2) the main AOP’s are put together: Ozonation + UV-Irradiation + Peroxydation + Catalysis, and their combinations: Photoozonization, Photocatalysis, Peroxonation, Peroxidation and others. These processes can be applied separatedly, in association with others, and even sequentially; it depends on the kind of effluent that has to be handled.

This review discusses cotton textile processing and methods of treating effluent in the textile industry. Several countries, including India, have introduced strict ecological standards for textile industries. With more stringent controls expected in the future, it is essential that control measures be implemented to minimize effluent problems. Industrial textile processing comprises pretreatme...

Background & Aims of the Study: Pharmaceutical wastewater is one of the major complex and toxic industrial effluents that contain little or no biodegradable organic matters. Materials & Methods: In this study, H2O2/UV base advance oxidation process (AOP) was used to remove organic materials from pharmaceutical industry effluent. Experiments were conducted for the chemical...
متن کاملReview Paper on Various Techniques used in Effluent Treatment of Textile Industry
Textile industries have their own importance in Indian economy. It consumes large amount of water and as a result huge amount of waste water is generated. Textile effluent comprises of suspended solids, mineral oils, residual oils and is characterized by high BOD (from 700 to 2000 mg/l) and COD loads. It is necessary to treat the waste water so that it does not have any threat to the environmen...
متن کاملDecolorization and Removal of Cod and Bod from Raw and Biotreated Textile Dye Bath Effluent through Advanced Oxidation Processes (aops)
In this paper, a comparative study of the treatment of raw and biotreated (upflow anaerobic sludge blanket, UASB) textile dye bath effluent using advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) is presented. The AOPs applied on raw and biotreated textile dye bath effluent, after characterization in terms of COD, colour, BOD and pH, were ozone, UV, UV/H2O2 and photo-Fenton. The decolorization of raw dye bat...

The paper industry is adopting zero liquid effluent technologies to reduce freshwater use and meet environmental regulations, which implies closure of water circuits and the progressive accumulation of pollutants that must be removed before water reuse and final wastewater discharge. The traditional water treatment technologies that are used in paper mills (such as dissolved air flotation or bi...
